I will preface this as my personal opinion after a year of research and testing prior to launching.
This is a subject that a lot of people disagree on and if someone wanted a 100% natural burning candle, the only solution would be an unscented beeswax candle.
There’s a lot of misconceptions that a natural candle fragranced with essential oils are better for you and your pets. The properties you get when using essential oils for aromatherapy (such as a diffuser) are not the same when using essential oils in a candle for a few reasons. Most essential oils have lower flash points than fragrance oils do. When lit, the heat from the flame can change the chemical compound of essential oils causing oxidization, making some of them (not all) toxic when burned in a candle (especially for pets).
Like humans, pets can also be sensitive to foods and smells. Some candles as well as air fresheners may contain irritating and harmful ingredients such as naphthalene or phthalates that can aggravate respiratory symptoms like asthma. Some scents that are most commonly not recommended to be used around dogs are citrus, eucalyptus, pine, peppermint and tea tree.
As a pet owner myself, I am mindful of the products that I use in my own home and wanting something that is safe for both my furry ones and myself which is what I kept in mind when creating my products.
Our candles are formulated with a blend of coconut and soy wax. It’s a biodegradable option that burns clean which means when following safe candle burning practices, it produces little or no airborne particles. We use FSC-certified natural wooden wicks which provides minimal carbon, soot and debris buildup when lit. We use fine fragrances that are formulated to be used in candles and they are ALL phthalate-free and paraben-free.
Burning scented candles are generally considered safe for our dogs. If you’re concerned a strongly scented candle may irritate your pet’s sensitive nose, try burning it in a well ventilated room.
